In 1929, after suffering a nervous breakdown Bix Beiderbecke went back to his hometown of Davenport, Iowa to recover at his parents home. He returned to New York in 1930 and made these last recording sessions in September of that year. Despite the all-star line-up of musicians on these records, the songs are a disappointment. Bix isn't playing that well and the whole affair is way too commercial. At this point in his life Bix's alcoholism was making it almost impossible for him to function. Bix had a standing offer to rejoin Paul Whiteman's Orchestra, but never did. He drank in his hotel room and went to the movies instead.
